How The Witcher 3 Inspired Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia

With the premiere of Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher dropping on December 20, 2019, we sat down with leading-man Henry Cavill to ask him how he discovered the voice for Geralt of Rivia.

Cavill informed us (for the full interview, check out the video above) that he initially went with something “very similar to” his natural accent but quickly realized that it didn’t fit with who he believed Geralt to be. “I had to show the truth of what Geralt is on the outside,” Cavill explained. “And straightaway, it couldn’t be the flowery language he uses to talk to a king or a queen or a lord.”

The British-born actor credits Doug Cockle’s iconic voice-over performance of Geralt in the video game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as well as Peter Kenny’s narration of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels for the English audiobook versions. But in the end, Cavill found his voice in both Cockle’s, and his own:
