How Afterparty Was Born From Bar Crawling and Cemetery Walks

When you look at Afterparty, Night School Studio’s newest game due out later this October, one has to wonder how a fledgling indie studio goes from a game about teenagers on a mysterious island to a game about drinking your way out of Hell. As developer Sean Krankel puts it on this month’s episode of IGN Unfiltered, the idea for Afterparty definitely involved a bit of drinking and cemetery exploration.

“There’s a cemetery called Forest Lawn across from our studio,” Krankel explains. “It’s massive. Anyone who’s been to LA knows, it’s like three miles across. So everybody is buried there. We’ll walk over there and brainstorm sometimes.
