  • Global App Spending Reached $277 Million on Christmas, Growing 11% Over 2018

    Spurred by new device sales, first-time mobile users, and consumers flush with gift card credit, worldwide spending across the App Store and Google Play on Christmas topped $277 million according to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates. This represented combined year-over-year growth of 11.3 percent for the stores, which brought in a total of $249 million in user spending on the same day in 2018. Consumer spending in apps and mobile games on Christmas accounted for about 5 percent of all revenue generated by the stores for the Month of December, which reached nearly $5.1 billion globally according to our estimates. This was 8 percent greater than the approximately $4.7 billion spent across both platforms during December 2018.   • Gardenscapes’ Lifetime Revenue Grows to $1.5 Billion

    The fifth highest-grossing puzzle game in 2019 so far, Playrix’s Gardenscapes, has grossed $1.5 billion from in-app purchases and seen more than 213 million installs globally since its August 2016 release, Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data reveals. Despite being one of Playrix’s older titles, Gardenscapes’ revenue is still growing, with November 2019 being its highest-earning ever: The close to $53 million that Gardenscapes grossed last month represents 48 percent growth year-over-year from the $35.7 million it earned in November 2018. In comparison, the puzzle genre’s leader during that same period, King’s Candy Crush Saga, saw 6 percent Y/Y growth. While its sequel, Homescapes, has recently overtaken Gardenscapes as Playrix’s primary moneymaker, Gardenscapes is still a significant part of the publisher’s business, accounting for 33 percent of its mobile revenue since January 2019.
